From Ethiopia to America

Turned Out is a breath-taking drama following a young beautiful girl who managed to escape her crude and horrid living conditions in Ethiopia. The country is in the middle of battle for its freedom against the evil warlords that control it. Under these circumstances, the refugees grow up with no other goal in mind: get enough money to smuggle themselves out and come to America with the hopes of a better life. Deetee’s plan was to work hard and save up enough money for her mother’s freedom before it’s too late. When faced with hard times, she allowed herself to become a part of what seemed like a fast way to get the money she needed and have a little fun at the same time. It is at this point that the story goes in depth on exactly what life is like in the underground prostitution ring a.k.a. escort service. This true story takes you right into the middle of it all. You meet the girls, the madams, the clients, the dignitaries, and their entourages. You see how it all starts and the unfortunate demise when deals go sour. Without giving too much away, I must say that these characters jump out at you from the pages of the book. The author actually lived this life. Jacques Hebert was in with this crowd and it is obvious as the reader is taken through a whirlwind of events all the way to the jaw-dropping ending.
